Coca-Cola Enterprises, with 8,041 tractors, 3,114 straight trucks. and 9,263 trailers, in the largest private motor carrier in the United States, according the industry trade magazine Transport Topics. I can see Coke's corporate headquarters from my office window in midtown Atlanta.

Private carriers transport their own products, as distinguished from for-hire carriers that haul for others. Some of the largest for-hire motor carriers such as J.B. Hunt, Roadway, Shneider, Werner, and Yellow.

Although private carriers may not be recognized as “trucking companies” to most of the public, their truck fleets are regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations just as for-hire carriers.
